Elhaité Speaks out

Date:

This Monday in the country’s capital, the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Environment held a press conference in its premises in order to highlight on the issue of the recent importation of 2500 tons of Italian wastes that has created a controversy over the last few days. There was a great turn up at the press point by many environmental associations from the four corners of the Kingdom, something that didn’t allow the mediating bodies to ask many questions on the subject that much has been written about in the previous weeks. The minister, Hakima Elhaité, clarified that in real sense the so called wastes from Italy are not wastes but « RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel), in other words they are solid recover fuels. These products composed of paper, box, textile, wood and plastic, are a priori not dangerous to public health. They are mainly destined for energy production». Before reminding the commitment of her ministry in energy valorisation and total respect of the environment. The minister said she is ready for any audit that help clarify the issue in order to put an end to this controversy.
